Thank you. I used simple green and a brush. Believe it or not but is just rustolem with built in primer and semigloss white. I figured i would just do that till I could get a new paint job.

Well it’s not pretty but I’ll fix that later. Motor needs to be pulled and painted this winter. I just want to drive it for now.

Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
I bought a new water pump from Oreilly’s. Well it didn’t fit correctly. The alternator bracket wouldn’t fit up flush bc of the machined boss. Is there a difference between 64-65 waterpumps. I ordered a reman pump and it looks correct in the pictures anyway.
Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
Hi crashchoate I had a similar problem with my 64. There are slight differences between water pumps that interfere with the alternator brackets sitting flush. I had big problems trying to figure out why my idler pulley wouldn't sit in line with the other pulleys. turned out that the water pump was from maybe a 70's Ford and the bracket had been bent to fit. I think this is the post viewtopic.php?t=13037

Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
I’m pretty sure that I now have the correct water pump. But the idler pulley won’t line up with anything. Does anybody have a picture of belt alignment. Thank you

I’m going to be replacing my ac system. When I take it out of the car would anybody like to purchase everything I have from the original system. It’ll be cheap. Just let me know.

Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
Since I’m waiting on my third water pump now. I decide I would try and start test fitting the mustang hydroboost unit. I believe it is going to work perfectly.
It still needs to sit back about 1/2 inch. But I need to modify the bracket a little and drill new holes for it to mount correctly.Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
That is good news about the HB. This is kind of a long time dream project for me that I don't know if I'll ever actually get around to so I'm looking forward to your progress and thoughts on how it perfroms.
Great stuff - looking forward to more about all your doing!

Redbird I believe that I should have less that 250 bucks in this conversion. I only have 50 bucks in the hydroboost and I believe the fittings I will need should be 50 bucks. Hoping the lines aren’t to bad. I’ve been looking into doing some cut to fit kits.

Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
I FINALLY have the correct water pump. Everything lines up well. Now I finally get to finish putting the motor together, radiator and wiring. Should be able to start finalizing the hydroboost lines after that. I’m getting excited again. Can’t wait to hear that new cam.
Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
Can you post where you got it and the part number? I'm not in need at the moment, but the internet is forever and you'll probably help someone else out down the road.crashchoate wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 11:51 pm I FINALLY have the correct water pump. Everything lines up well.

I'm curious what the difference is between the right and wrong water pumps?

Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
Seebart I bought the water pump off Ebay and the Brand is an Airtek Manufacturer Part number is SX3024.
Since I had a hard time getting all of this to line back up I went ahead and took a bunch of pictures between the differences and then I did some step by step photos of how everything is supposed to bolt up together. This is how it worked for me I may be wrong but everything now lines up. please correct me if I'm wrong and I will correct it.
This is the pictures of the differences in the pumps. I wish I could've keep the first pump but I wanted my 90 bucks back. I just ate the 35 bucks for the 2nd pump. This is how the pump should bolt up to the block. This the spacer that you need to go between the alternator bracket and the water pump Spacer bolted up in place. So the long bolt goes through your a/c idler pulley alternator bracket and the spacer. The short bolt goes in the hole on the right that is hidden behind the water pump pulley. Alternator bolted up. Spacer that goes behind the alternator The next few photos are of the new one wire alternator that I purchased. In the first two photos this is how the alternator comes from the factory. When you bolt it to the bracket the terminal sits to close to the block and could come in contact with it. So I unbolted four screws and rotated it one bolt hole. I did not have to pull it apart to do this and I would not advise it. Next two photos are the alternators rotated position and the last two are where it could hit the block and where it is are rotation.

Re: 1964 Thunderbird build
So as I pointed out earlier there are differences between water pumps.
