Waldrons Exhaust

Post by RedBird64 »

Anybody have experience with Waldrons http://waldronexhaust.com/cart/index.ph ... 8a28bb9a48 Exhaust systems? Specifically I'm wondering about the difference in sound between the completely stock and the "Mild Impostor".
I'd like to be able to hear a little sound but nothing loud or ratty.

Thanks,
Scott

A couple years ago I had a complete Waldron's system installed on my '64. It had mufflers and resonators as original and I opted for the standard mufflers. I would say the noise level was probably equivalent to what the original system would have been. It had a nice low tone to it but if you wanted something a little louder I would say go for the Impostor mufflers.

So you can hear the burble of the engine in the car? That sounds good enough to me. I'd rather error on the conservative side in this case.
Were your turn downs the tiny 1 3/4 " or were they the full 2"?

They were 1 3/4". I wanted it to look as original as possible. The system fit pretty well but still required some massaging by the muffler shop.

Hmm, don't like the sound of that - I was going to try and install it myself. And come to think of it since I'm using new stock hangers in back I'll have to use stock size turn-downs as well.
Thanks for the heads up.

Got my exhaust and already have a problem. Muffler outlets are not the correct 1 3/4" but instead they are a full 2". I don't know if the original hangers will hold them - hangers are out to the platers because they started to rust already so I can't check them. Anyway I really wanted it to look stock.

Sent an email to them - hope their helpful about this! Or dont make me wait another 5 weeks for the correct parts.

Update:
Talked to Waldrons today - they admitted the muffs are wrong and are sending the correct parts and paying shipping for both the new parts delivered and old ones returned.
Great company to deal with!

They sent me a $90 refund after I told them the muffler shop had to modify the pipes slightly to make them fit properly. And they werent snarky about it either. I was impressed.

Wow, that is impressive.
The next thing to worry about is the thickness of the flange at the manifold. It's a thick piece solid SS instead of a stamped sheet metal part and I'm afraid my studs aren't long enough.
Were yours like that 60fore?

Don't know if it makes any difference but the system I bought was aluminized, not stainless steel. The flanges were not so thick that it caused a problem with the manifold studs.
