Does anyone know anything about the dash caps on ebay that go over a cracked dash? Thanks, Alan

dash cap

Post by nbaum »

I have not had any experience with these caps but I see two types out there. One appears to be sewed together and the second and I think the best is molded. I think the most difficult part will be getting the new pad behind the dash. You may have to remove the dash for that but as I said I haven't done it so I don't know.

I noticed that the guy on ebay sold one of the dash caps a few days ago.

Did anyone that subscribes to the VTCI forum happen to buy it?

If so - am really interested to find out how it works out.

thanx

here is a link to my site for T Bird pics as I progress, the cap is held in place by silicone sealant (supplied) and is to be dabbed around the perimeter of the cap to hold it in place and also to allow it to move in the heat and cold.

Thanx for the pictures Jim!

What is your opinion of the pad cover itself (quality, material, fit, texture, etc.)?

Do you plan to paint the pad with vinyl paint or are do you plan to leave it black?

I do not see where it say's to paint it I believe you order the correct or close color to match you'r color also I think it is mentioned that they can color the cap.

Do you think the cap could be properly installed without removing the old dash?

You do not remove the dash all it requires is to remove any cracked vinyl so it is no curled up.

I am undecided as to whether to put the dash back in the car before installing the cap or to put the cap over the dash before installing the dash. I used a heat gun around the def vents tried to melt the old vinyl which did not work but I was able with the aide of boards and clamps to get the curled edges back down. On another note I have noticed that the cap appears to be to wide and overhangs the dash, I have called the dealer and sent more photos to him. Next I am going to insert the dash back in the car and see what happens.
