Radiator ID info

Post by bcox26 »

I was about to install my radiator when I noticed some numbers stamped on the top and a brass or copper tag between the transmission lines. I Have GI C6SE 8005 and a little to the right is stamped B16A19. The second appears to be a date code. The C6 corresponds to the OFS but mine has no letter after. The G - I has a roman numeral may be a one? The tag has stamped 163545 with a letter A above the 1 and an R above the 5. I will try to get some pictures if needed.
The car has a 428 with no a/c convertible.

Thanks,
Buddy

Buddy: GI is the vendor code for Ford's Green Island, NY plant. Other codes I need to get into research we've been compiling for 64-66 OFS revisions.

Buddy,

C6SE-8005 is the engineering number of your radiator.
A simplified breakdown of the FoMoCo parts numbering system is as follows;

C = decade of the 1960s, 1960 - 1969
6 = year in that decade - 1966.
S = "Thunderbird" for the model line.
E = engine parts.

8005 = radiators.

At a glance one can quickly determine from the prefix in the engineering number this is a 1966 Thunderbird engine part. If you're familiar with the part number families, you will recognize the number 8005 indicated radiators.

It might have proceeded my time at Ford, but I don't remember a radiator plant on Grosse Isle. However, there was a radiator plant in Green Island, NY (near Troy, NY where I went to college)

This is what I get for not checking my resources and going off of memory. I stand corrected, and have revised the original response. Try doing THAT on Facebook.. .
