Unknown Button Center Console

Post by jnitchoff »

Can anyone tell me what this button is for? I know the wheel is for cruise control. Is this also for cruise control?

Please let me know.

Thanks

It will not let me upload a photo. It is a button that pulls up. It is right behind the small wheel for cruise control.

Do you have a copy of the Owner's Manual? It gives a description of the speed controls and how they work. If you don't have an Owner's manual they are available from those vendors which support VTCI and this website.

The part is pulled up to engage the speed control,
the wheel dials in the desired speed. When the knob is pulled up - before or after desired speed is set - I need to confirm (others are welcome to chime in).

Judging from the console plate you have a 64 hardtop or convertible. I need to look at copies of Owner's Manuals in my collection to see if any printings from 64 or 65 have instructions on the speed control. There were two or three releases of the 64 Owner's Manual.

Here's the operating instructions for the automatic speed control, along with the cover page from my reprint of the 1964 "Registered Owner's Manual". I don't have the speed control but kinda wish I did.... very nice!

Inside the front cover or on the back cover there should be a form number and which printing issue the manual is. Can you post which printing/date of the reprint you have? I'm coming off a long weekend of showing at our local World of Wheels and being away from my resource library to know what/when changes were made in the manuals.

Alan:
Inside the front cover - "First Printing © 1963 Ford Motor Company" "Reprinted with Ford Motor Company's Permission"
On the back cover - "Form 7513-64"

Hope this helps.
