Finding a replacement lens for the assembly

Post by ShawnDejesus »

I'm wondering if anyone has knowledge on the procedure for disassembling the rear courtesy light assembly in order to replace the bulbs. Additionally, if possible, I am interested in finding a replacement lens for the assembly. Specifically, I am referring to the courtesy light situated in the rear crossmember of the convertible top.

If memory serves: there are two screws that hold the light up into the bar. Remove those screws and there is a little slack in the wire to drop it down. Now you’ve got access to the bulbs. These lenses get yellow and brittle. I’ve heard a bleach soak helps the yellow (but haven’t tried it).

I don’t know about getting a new lense. Perhaps someone has figured out a technique using a 3-D printer, silicone mold and a epoxy resin, but I don’t know.
