3 point seatbelt for front seats 61-64

Post by Mvs62bulletbird »

Hi everyone, I’m needing some help designing a 3 point seatbelt for a 62 thunderbird roadster. Has anyone ever done this. I know the lap belt is at seatbelts.com any other sites would be helpful.

My thoughts are two belt’s coming from the rear seat mount one is a diagonal 45 degree intersecting at the shoulder then a retractable belt from the respective outside of the seat. All thoughts are welcome here. I think a 4 point belt is over the top but could be cool 😎 looking. Also the car is Rangoon red with black leather interior so I’m looking a ruby red belts, or some other red to make things pop just a little more with ss aircraft style buckles.

Again I’m listening to everyone and what you would do
Please let me know asap. I need to get the order in as I’m replacing the top control neutral relay on the fire wall behind the brake pedal and I’ve got to pull the seat to get in there. I’m the size of a NFL tight end minus the speed.

Also anyone know about seat track extenders as I’m 6ft 5 and need the leg room.

I know it a big ask on all this but it sure would help a lot
Pm me if you wish and thanks in advance Michael.

Do a "SEARCH" in past articles. This subject has come up several times, and does not be a reinvent the wheel topic. There have been several posts on this.

This is kind of a 'teachable moment' kind of response. I typed these words into "Search":
3 point seatbelt for front seats 61-64

And came up with this:
https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/ ... eats+61-64

There were 5 posts that came up. The first 3 posts are directly related to this one or a similar one that's also out there by the original poster. Note the last two posts in the listing came up with links to threads from back in 2013 and 2011.

Now, if I put a space between 'seat' and 'belt' I get 7 posts.
https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/ ... eats+61-64

A few more posts came up, even one I made back in 2005  .

Now, if I only use '3 point seat belt' in the 'Search' bar, I come up with 56 posts!
https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/ ... +seat+belt

If I type in 'seat track extenders' here's what comes up:
https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/ ... +extenders

Yeah, that didn't do much. Getting creative on words, though, along with spending about 15 minutes searching myself, if I type in 'drivers seat mount' I came up with a 28 posts with suggestions on how to modify the seat tracks for more travel or move the seat back:
https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/ ... t&start=15

Granted, posts come up for everything from installing 3-point belts on '55-'57s to newer cars, but a fair number deal with '58-'66s, and more specifically '61-'66s. I hope people get the point that there's a wealth of information stored here. If a person does a little digging, they may have to wade through some non-applicable posts but chances are they may learn a little something from them.

A different set of words in the 'Search' bar should yield some more posts. As Raven noted, this topic has been covered several times before - it just may require a little playing with search terms/words to dig up more. Remember, folks, there's posts in this Forum going back over 20 years. Sometimes part of the fun here for me is typing in a variety of words in the 'Search' box to see what comes up.

Long story short - take a few minutes to look around, explore and, if the answer still isn't out there, you may be better informed and able to describe what you're looking to do, especially if the topic really hasn't been covered in the depth that's needed. I like to think that our answers can build on the previous ones.

As they always say, "Search" can be your friend...

Other than what is in the club's data bank, are any web addresses that focus on this 3 point question, successfully? I have not found one that does, the overwhelming opinion, so far is the difficulty with the uni-body to support the 3 point.

I would never mount a shoulder harness like that. It's way too low - not even at shoulder level.
