I had this issue crop up on me this morning when starting out to attend a car show about 30 miles from me. Car is set up with points/condenser and stock Autolite 4100, mechanical fuel pump, etc.

I had a lot of angst about continuing on after my second stop/stall about 6 miles from home, and actually was afraid to shut the car off to fill it another 12 miles later (don't worry, steering column was swung over and I was at a place where I wasn't concerned about someone jumping into the car and driving off while I was filling it). Filling the car with new, fresh $5.75-ish/gallon Premium non-alcohol gas ($46 for just over 7 gallons) and making sure the batter cut-off know was securely tightened may have helped solve the problem, along with going for a more-extensive drive than I've been taking the past year or so.
And, yes, I made it home just fine. You can see photos at the VTCI's Facebook Group page.
