What’s the timing supposed to be set at on the 79 351W? The guy I got it from put a new distributor in it but says that he can’t advance it enough because the vacuum advance hits something. He said it needs pulled and re-clocked so it can be timed correctly. It starts fine but has a hesitation when pulling out and the engine surges back and forth when cruising, almost like when there is a vacuum leak. I thought the distributor only went in one way but I don’t have a lot of experience with the 351W.

Also, I found a vacuum leak at the base plate, so that’s where the surging vacuum is coming from. Still need to re-stab the distributor and set the timing.
