Hello from Germany.

I didn't register with you today and would like to introduce myself briefly.

My name is Jörg Montag, I am 56 years old and live with my wife and 2 children (4 and 6) in southern Germany, near Lake Constance.

I've had Dodge, Lincoln and Cadillac classic US cars since 1995.
Changed again and again ...
I'm not a collector, I want to drive these great cars, so they don't have to be perfect either.

For three weeks now I have had a 1968 4-Door Landau with the 429 thunderjet engine.

The vehicle has a German classic car registration and I love to drive it.

Of course, there are still a few things to do, and I am happy when I have questions, to ask these and get answers.

WELCOME to the forum! I enjoyed seeing the photos of your beautiful '68, and especially liked the elegant color combination. I am just finishing a ground-up restoration of my '68 coupe which I have owned since 1970. Almost any parts for the '57 through '66 models are easy to find, but not so for the '67 through '71. A Google search for "Thunderbird Glamour Birds" should reveal some part sources along with a Glamour Bird Facebook page. I also found Classique Cars Unlimited and Cougars Unlimited to be good sources for parts. Don't hesitate to send me a PM or email if you think I can help.

Hello Art,

thank you very much for your answer and the hint about the possibility to order parts. I try to fix everything myself,
but I am not a professional and have my limits. A few things I will still do step by step, but it is nothing important.

Only the carburetor I have at the top of my list. For 2 weeks everything was fine,
but now the idle RPM is too high and in warm condition it only starts with Startpilot. In cold start there are no problems.
If I turn off the moror and restart it, the RPM is correct, but after acceleration the idle RPM remains too high again.
I have an appointment at a good US classic car shop nearby on June 22.

Maybe a few sentences, how I came to the thunderbird: :smile:

I had a 1973 Cadillac Eldorado convertible until April this year.

With the kids, trips were always a bit problematic.

Too cold, too hot, too windy, top up, top down....

For this reason I have made myself again on the search.
Actually it should be a Cadillac sedan.
Then I saw the thunderbird on the internet on craigslist.
I liked it right away, I had never seen one live before.

The rest is history....

One possibility is that some part of the carburetor linkage is not working as it should. Possibly the fast idle cam, which is on the left (driver's) side of the carburetor, is not changing position or the choke is not opening as the engine warms up.

Hello dear forum community,

I have again a question to the cumulative Fachkpmpetenz:

I bought a water pump for my T-Bird from RockAuto. The existing has already some axial play. There was not much choice,
only one popped up. You can't go wrong with that one, in this case....
It arrived today, but I don't think it will fit.

The original part number is: C8SE 8505-E.

I have attached pictures, the first is of the pump that was delivery today. The last two was of that, was is installed.

Does anyone know an address where I can buy the right pump, and also deliver to Germany?

attached the current todo list, already well processed ... unfortunately only in german..

Currently I am still waiting for the overhaul kit of the water pump. The repair and painting of the fender postpone to the winter or i let it...

Hello dear forum,

I send you a few pictures from last weekend.

The car is now almost technically perfect. Visually I leave it as it is.

You can already look at him the 53 years. It's the same with us humans.

The car drives wonderfully, nothing rattles, squeaks or wobbles.

I enjoy it very much and most people are happy to see such a car.

You don't see it every day on German roads.
