Hey guys I need a little advice. I'm gonna pull the 390 out this fall and have it rebuilt. I'd like to install a cam with a little more lift than stock. How much lift can I go with before I have to install a different convertor? I want to keep the Cruise-o-matic, does anyone offer a stall convertor for one? BTW I intend to do just a standard rebuild with the orig. cast iron intake and 2 1/4" outlet exh. manifolds.

I have a .480 lift cam in mine. Up from the .402 lift on the intake. I have no stall converter issues and I'm very happy with the performance.

I would recommend going to an aluminum intake and ceramic coated headers. With the stock manifolds and the higher lift cam, I couldn't stop burning out gaskets, even the "no blow"ones.
