Adjustable steering column

My adjustable steering column will not release and allow adjustment to the rearward position.

The Tbird parts suppliers have a tool. In the meantime, you can try wrapping the collar with some type of elastic band that will grip it. Insert a screwdriver, dowel, etc., whatever is available, and twist the band until it is tight around the collar, then pull. If it doesn't work, you haven't done any harm. The supplier's tool has teeth that engage the grooves on the collar. Your problem is a common one. Mine won't loosen by hand either. Once it's where you want it, there's no need to adjust it, unless there are multiple drivers.
