1961 Rear Drum HELP!!

Post by Evanstbird »

Hello all. I picked up a 61 and went to redo the rear brakes and discovered that it's missing the brake strut and parking brake lever on the driver side.
Anyone willing to part with theirs?

Many thanks,
Evan

Have you check if anything else is missing?...Do you have the 1961 Shop Manual?

G'day,
Have you tried the vendors? Pat Wilson should have some of them.

Yes sir. I've gone through everything and the brakes work now minus the lever and strut. I do have the manual and I've rebuilt quite a few sets of drums over the years.

Thanks for your comment

I checked T-BIRD HQ and found they at least have the parking brake lever in a $12.50 kit about halfway down this page:

Also... and I know a lot of people hate Ebay, but I've had good luck scoring hard-to-find parts there. I just did a quick search (specifying all categories) for " 61 Thunderbird Brake Parts " and got a couple thousand listings with a lot of this sort of thing.

G'day,
J.R. I could be wrong but I think the lever that Evan is talking about is the long lever that attaches to the handbrake cable and the strut is the part that goes between the two shoes. the lever in the kit that you are referring too is the self adjusting lever.

Evan, did you actually ring Pat Wilson, In the past I have found that not all his parts are on the web pages, maybe things have changed, it's been a long time since I have purchased anything from Pat Wilson's.

You might try the folks at Bird Nest too. They have tons of used and NOS parts that aren't listed in their catalogue. They've come through for me several times in the past for my '61.
