Swapping a 5.0L FI motor with AOD in a 58-60?

Post by joeg9339 »

Hello,

I am thinking about starting a new project.. I have envisioned a 58-60 with a 5.0 FI mustang engine backed by a AOD trans. I can get these cheap with fairly low miles from a buddy. I was wondering if anyone out there has done one, or have heard of someone doing one? I would like to to know what major challenges I may run into?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

See "swapping engine/tranny" thread. Sounds like a very difficult and expensive job, unfortunately.

Actually the square bird lends itself to these kinds of mods, being it's not a shock tower car. One of my local members has a very nice '60 with a 351 C and AOD. Of course we're risking getting kicked down to the modified section with this kind of talk    Bob C
It's gonna be cool when it's done

Last June, someone posted: "The eng is smaller cubes-wise but is a lot bigger physically - mostly because of the sophisticated heads. It can and has been done but it is a huge process of fabricating parts and modifying the eng compartment and its shock towers. Absolutely nothing is going to bolt up without a ton of work. Are you doing all this work yourself? If not then expect a custom shop to charge many tens of thousands of dollars to do all the work you described."

Shock towers or no shock towers? What gives?

I'm certainly no expert on Squarebirds, but if the engine bay can hold an FE or MEL engine from the factory, why should a Windsor engine be a tight fit???

Well BB (if that's really your name LOL) you actually had a good run going for a little while. You managed to post without insulting anyone or anything. But I see that's come to an end, not surprisingly.

Why you're still allowed to be a member of this forum is beyond me. I hope it's because you're a huge monetary contributor to VTCI.

I know, it's hard to believe. ;-) BTW, Mr. personality managed to get himself thrown off of another forum recently. He wasn't interested in the cars, he was all about his own entertainment.
