Whatchamacallit convertible trunk piece?

Post by gyoungwolf »

My '62 convertible is missing one of the cylindrical retainer things that capture the large spinning screws in the truck lid when it closes. I am going to call around to try to find one, but would like to know what it is called to make the search easier. Also, are both side the same? This one is on the left. (I have a shop and top manual, but they are far away in the car at the repair shop right now, and I would like to try find the part while it is there).
Thanks much,
Grant

I Think you could get them from Bob's Bird house in Delaware, they are on the web. Contact Charles and I'm sure he can help you.

Bird Nest and Pat Wilson also carry used parts. It really pays to call around. I got a PCV system for $85 from Pat Wilson when Bob's wanted almost $200. I think they just call out an arbitrary price as they have no idea what the competition is charging.

Thanks again for the contact information. While I still don't know the name of the part, I will call some folks Monday. None of the websites are too friendly for user requests for information and none seem to list any used parts.

I have been a Corvair guy for about 15 years, including buying and selling used parts, along with dozens and dozens of other hoarders, but I have not yet been able to tap into a list of the little guys out here who vend or sell used T-Bird parts out of their garages. I am used to big discrepancies in parts prices this way, and found many folks willing to trade for other parts or my carburetor rebuild service, and sometimes just free to whomever will pick them up. Hoping there are some of you like that out there.

According to the 'blue bible' parts manual, the description of the part is: Group No. 432A34 - Nut & Housing Assy. - Luggage compartment door lock. Part No. (61/63) C3SZ 76432A34-A. There is no reference to left & right side so they both must be the same. Hope this helps Grant.

Thanks to all. I found the "receiver" (as it is known generically), aka truck lock, at Wilson's today. Life is good.
