Trunk Light

Post by ICON 1956 »

Does anyone know where to properly place a trunk light on our 1961 bird, I just bought one from E Bay. The one already in my trunk is just a single wire and the bulb is placed high inside the middle of the lid supports. Thanks in advance Steve.

Steve, I think what you have bought is the underhood light which was a dealer option but I don't think it was offered for '61 models. Your trunk light description sounds like the same one fitted to the trunk of my '61 hardtop which I know is factory standard.

Do you have the Jim Osborn Electrical Assembly and Body / Trim / Sealant manuals? Both a must have and worth their weight in gold if you are working on the car yourself.

I went looking for the trunk light which I found near the end of the trunk lid right over the trunk striker there is a socket with a bulb attached to the under frame of the trunk. Not a real fancy application I thought Ford would have placed a more prominent housing which would have shined the light more in the trunk than just a bulb . I might change the location with this housing.
