"Performance" sway bars and shocks

Post by karlhc »

1955 with Auto, Ps, PB. I installed the larger front sway bar and added a rear sway bar Plus installed the "performance" shocks, all from Hills. The rear sway bar directions could have been better, but I think I have it in right side up. At the same time i also installed new rear spring bushings and the sliding things between the spring leaf's.
The car now stays pretty darn flat in corners and with the radial tires drives very nicely down the highway. We have a lot, I mean a lot, of potholes here in Missouri and when hitting one, you will find every squeak and rattle in the car.
I went quite a few miles down a two lane, windy back road and it reminded me of doing the same with my wife's Mercedes SL. The ride in the T-Bird was not quite as smooth as the SL but I was pleasantly surprised at how fast (not crazy tire squealing fast) I could take the corners and still feel in control.
With all the money spent since purchasing the car last August (a whole lot) I think the is one of my better purchases.

Glad you got them installed on your '55. If they are the ADDCO units, I cannot get them installed on my '57 - different rear axle and resonators, basically interferences with the exhaust pipes in any position I found.

No help from addco? I noticed on my 55 there are witness marks on the bar from contacting the exhaust (not really sure about the point of contact)

Nope, radio silence from ADDCO as well as from CASCO. Not particularly happy about that. I have given up on the idea for now.
