Instrument Cluster Replacement
Instrument Cluster Replacement
About two weeks ago my cluster started going crazy, dead needle on the tach, fuel gauge way, way off, coolant temp and amp reading on the high side, the only gauge that remained correct was the speedometer, now other than those cluster readings, my Bird ran great......I don't ever hear too much about clusters going on the brink, but I shopped around and found a low-mileage cluster from a '96 in southern Calif, I paid nearly $200. for it, I just got it in yesterday evening and took a long road test today, all worked out, gauges all reading correctly now.....I'll have to send my O.E. cluster out for repair so I'll have a spare on the shelf for in the future....Also wanted to mention that the cluster bezel removal is not all that tough like I've heard many times, mine has become a little on the brittle side after 30 years(Florida car) and needed a special touch, that bezel is heavy and bulky and may get cracked upon removal if not done right, a replacement bezel('94-'96) is near impossible to find.....

Re: Instrument Cluster Replacement
After reading my OP, I forgot to mention that if you take your cluster out, once you have the four hold down screws out, always pull the right side plug-in out first, it has a longer line than the left side, upon re-installing the cluster, do the reverse, left side plug-in first.......
