1958 T Bird 352 engine 4100 Autolite Carb

Post by Al Spurlock »

I would like to upgrade the Carb on my T Bird. I do desire to keep my stock air cleaner, avoid re-engineering to linkage and trans kick down. Any and a feedback is welcome, lessons learned are always good. Also should I complete upgrade to a complete all around disc brake system.

You might get more responses if you post this in the modified forum. These are not unusual modifications.

When selecting a replacement carburetor be aware that is easy to go too big. Part throttle response and driveability will suffer. Unless you are building a performance motor with heads, cam, headers, better flowing intake, and higher engine speed you don’t want a much larger carb than the 4100.

A 352 running at 5000 rpm only needs about 450 cfm. Anything larger than 500 cfm would not work well.

Expect the issues you said you want to avoid. Plan to adapt the air cleaner and linkages.
