Turn signal help!

Post by TTownTBird »

I have searched the forum, along with other sites, and haven’t found an answer or guidance to my specific problem. I’m not entirely mechanically savvy as this is my first project car, so I’m not sure of where to begin, but after some troubleshooting, I am certain of this:

With lights on, and/or brake depression, all lights come on across the back of the car.

With brake depressed and turn signal on, turn side lights turn off (left signal: left lights turn off, right side lights remain solid. Right signal: right lights turn off, left side remains solid)

There is power going to the turn signal relay box as with both directions of turn signal, I can hear the mechanism whirring inside.

With this knowledge, where should I start in trying to resolve this?

Thank you in advance

So just to confirm, with the turn signal active you are reading on/off power to each of the bulbs? I know those sequential contacts can get corroded and cause problems. On my car I have a couple that don't light. Guessing it's the contact but haven't had time to open it up yet.

Did I miss something?!?!

What year are we talking about????

There are differences between 64/65/66, so to answer, more info is required.

Since you are a Newbee take a few minutes to SEARCH the FORUM. There is a wonderful article produced by Redstang Bob, going back several years but explains the tail light system for the 65/66 cars. Some reading may be of benefit
