Just want to give everyone interested in Front Disc Brakes an update. I'll incorporate this into the ACC Disc Brake guide and repost it.
Just a refresher, I wrote the guide with Treozen based on my experience installing the ACC Front Disc Brake kit in our '62. I used a generic 9" shim single-diaphragm booster from LEED brakes on the stock mounting bracket. I bought the '63 with the kit already installed, but while the brakes would stop the car, there was clearly work to be done. In addition, the newly-installed brake light switch wouldn't turn on the brake lights. The previous owner installed the 7" single-diaphragm booster that came with the ACC complete kit. I kept that when I replaced the master cylinder and proportioning valve, but brakes were very much and "all or nothing" affair. After a series of brake pressure switch failures, i decided to replace everything from the firewall to the brake lines at the proportioning valve. I went with a 9" slim master cylinder from Jegs and the Jegs version of a Wilwood Tandem Aluminum Master Cylinder and proportioning valve as a kit.
Here it is all installed, but you can see there's a problem-- While I thought the master cylinder would sit lower that the previous one and fit under the cross-brace, it actually sits higher once mounted, and the extension on the shock tower mounting plate hit the top of the master cylinder.
Remembering that the '65-'66 used a different upper shock tower mount and a different cross member from the firewall to clear the larger master cylinder when Ford went to standard front disc brakes, I called Pat Wilson's and ordered a used set on Monday. They arrived today, primed and ready for paint. Here's the test fit, and you can see the shock tower mount is well clear from the master cylinder and the cross brace almost doesn't touch the master cylinder. I used my Dremel to cut and grind a shallow large-radius curved notch in the cross-brace, and it worked like a champ. Still waiting for the paint to dry to install it, so I'll have another picture and update on the brakes tomorrow.
Best,
Dave

Re: Disc Brake Upgrade/Update
Here's the final product-
Very pleased with the results. I cant say I am stopping faster, but overall brake feel is improved. I can actually modulate the brakes better now... as I mentioned, the brakes were kind off an "all or nothing" affair prior to this upgrade. The 9" booster makes a huge difference, IMO. I highly recommend this set-up if you are thinking about a disk/drum brake upgrade.Re: Disc Brake Upgrade/Update
Is there a disc brake conversion that will work with stock 14” Kelsey-Hayes wheels?
