67 Thunderbird 4 door

Post by Thunderbird337 »

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 67 4 door hardtop and would like as much advice as possible on where to get parts for it. I plan on doing a full restoration on it over the next couple of years. If you can link any sites or contacts, I'd greatly appreciate it. This will be my first restoration and plan to learn from many of your mistakes while making some of my own😆.

First --- Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on the purchase of your '67 4-door TBird. I'm certain that you will find it a joy to own and drive, especially after you spend a couple years --- or maybe a little more --- bringing it back to its original form. A "restoration" can range anywhere from a new paint job, a thorough cleaning and getting all the mechanics working as they should so it can be enjoyed on weekend outings to stripping the car down to its last nut and bolt, rebuilding it with "concourse-correct" everything, and occasionally taking it out of the garage to attend local car shows. I suspect that you know this and have started to accumulate the stuff you will need, but if not you will need the Ford shop manual plus schematics of the electrical and vacuum systems. And depending on how much of the work you plan to do, you will also need to find local mechanics who are familiar with these 60-year-old cars including a shop to do the machine work on the engine, an automatic transmission specialist, someone who understands and can make the needed repairs and adjustments to the suspension system, AND a parts shop with at least one person who should have retired 10 years ago. Also if you don't already know a paint and body person that you are happy with, it's important that you find one who understands and agrees with what you want to achieve. So with that, I'll climb down off my soap box and try to reply to your request. The following is a list of the various sources I found useful while restoring my '68.

Don't hesitate to send me an e-mail or pm if you have any questions.

Good luck and enjoy the ride,
Art
