Clip on wire wheels…

Post by thundermax »

I am installing the two piece clip on wire wheel covers. What purpose does the rubber bumper piece serve? Saw a video on YouTube and the rubber bumper was not used by the installer due to the chrome ring would not seat flush against the rim and left a good size gap. Thanks in advance !

Ventport, I think the guy on YouTube that I referenced not using the rubber bumpers on the spring clips was somewhat incorrect. I wasn’t sure what the purpose of the rubber bumpers were used for, now I think why. One they may quiet the wire ring when driving and they provide a slight gap to prevent the ring from rubbing the white wall. I saw on one wheel that the ring was rubbing the white wall around the entire wheel. I’m hoping this is correct thinking. Your response made me look a little closer and install the rubber bumpers. Thanks !
