'62 will not go into park

My '62 will not go into Park. I can start it in neutral, but gearshift will not go into park. when steering wheel is moved to the right, gear lever goes into park, but no idea if the transmission is in park. it seems like it should be a linkage or cable adjustment, but can't find anything in shop manual.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Check for wear on the detent plate and shift lever. Losing Park position is an early sign of failure of those parts. Do a search of this forum....type in "transmission detent" . In that search you will find a post with alink to instructions on how to replace the detent plate and shifter lever. Good luck.
