1978 Tbird Brake Fluid

Post by Thugpug »

Hello hello, I am about to replace some calipers and will need to bleed my brakes. I was looking into what fluid my car takes and I'm getting results saying DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1. I know 3 and 4 can be used, mixed and interchangeable. But the 5.1 has me confused whether I can use this on my car. A site showed tbirds from the 50 or 60s up till the 2000s can use the 5.1. I would appreciate a for sure answer as soon as possible please. Trying to get it done today. What would be the best bet, 4 maybe?

I'd use DOT 3, I flush mine every 3-4 years. JMO, Bob C

That's what I remember is DOT 3. I was thinking of doing DOT 4 for the higher boiling point and braking is extremely common where I live. Does that seem good?
