I have seen a couple of manual conversions but do not remember the transmission used. A number of street rod parts, Summitt Racing parts or full sized Ford parts should be able to make it work mechanically. ALL BUT A COUPLE of these conversions looked very crude. YES they worked and probably worked well, but getting the cosmetics and the shifter centered in the console is not as easy as you may think. Perhaps this is important to you, perhaps not. Your car, your time, your checkbook, your call. Best of luck either way.
PLEASE invest a few bucks and buy all the shop manuals for your car. Definitely will save you much time and be an education.

Only just saw your post. Have not done it nor seen it done but was just reading about TKO5 speeds on an FE engine. Looks like you'll need a bell housing from maybe QuikTime or someone similar and it looks like 3.50 rear end works best for highway driving. There's a bit of information on google if you search TKO5 speed transmission to a ford FE. You might be able to use pedal assembly from a Galaxie.
