One of the Allegheny Ludlum's '60 Stainless Steel T-birds is going on the auction block at Auburn, Indiana this September, along with one of the '36 Ford tudors and one of three '66-'67 Lincoln Continental convertibles.

The late Carl Davis, long-time VTCA VP in the '70s-early '80s restored one of the two for A-L in the mid-late '70s, and they have been displayed at past VTCA/VTCI conventions over the years.

I can remember the first time I saw the Square Bird, it was in 89 in Denver, if memory serves. It's where I met you and Don Chase for the first time, at Don Donahues house in the "Hills".
Believe you were still in school, correct me if I am wrong, just a little guy with a lot of Bird knowhow, and learning more.
OMG that's over 30 years ago, great, now I feel old!!!

The stainless steel '60 wasn't at Denver in '89, but it was at Falls Church, VA/Washington DC in 1991. That's the only time I remember seeing it at a VTCI convention I ever attended. In '89 I had finished grad school in May, hosted the North Central Regional in Omaha in June and went to Denver in September by train, riding home with Don Chase in the navigator/co-pilot's seat.RAVEN wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 10:37 pm I can remember the first time I saw the Square Bird, it was in 89 in Denver, if memory serves. Are you sure you aren't thinking of RMTC's "Thunderbird Rendezvous" in '85? The party at Donahue's house the night before we drove to Grand Junction was a REAL party - was between junior and sophomore years in college at that time and it had a lot of 'firsts' - first all-T-bird event I ever attended, first road trip in a Sports Roadster with Don, first time I met Donahue, Marty and Carol Brugmans, Gary Kerr, Ernie Chapman, Gadra, the guys from Vancouver...a real "who's who" of the Vintage T-bird world with a LOT of people I wish were still around, including Donny and Don. The '89 International pre-convention party was just as memorable, though.

Alan, I will bow to your memory, it must have been Grand Junction, I just remember meeting this Smart "little" guy who was an avid football fan and was researching Birds and taking pictures. Plus it was at Donahues place, over looking the city and sunset, and it was in 89' (my reported terminal cancer year)
You are right, some good guys have left us. I miss the two Dons, always had fun at Spring Carlisle with both. Don C with the Firm handshake, and Don D with the out going personna
For some reason the Square Bird sticks in my mind, but maybe it was Bird #1 in 89. Just know I have seen #1, #1.000.000, and the S/S Bird, over the years.
To many memories for this old Commodor 64 puter to keep straight.
