1965 Landau engine bracket?

Post by dmtinker »

The driver's side engine bracket (stabilizer?) was not connected when I got my car. I'm doing a restoration. This is the bracket that is in the engine compartment and attaches to the firewall. My question is that it seems many people delete them. Are they not needed? Also, if they are, is there a part number for it?
Thanks.

I think you are talking about the brace that goes from the shock tower to the firewall. I know a lot of cars no longer have them, but they do strengthen the engine bay. They are readily available used from the usual suppliers or on eBay.
Hope this helps

Convertibles have four braces, two long, two short, Hardtops only have a short one on each side. Which body style is your car?

Sorry, Duh.

Yes, just one brace from center of the cowl to the shock tower on each side.

There is a right and left brace. The passenger side is the same for 64 to 66, but the driver side changed for 65 and 66 because of the master cylinder for disc drum brakes. This makes the driver side brace more difficult to find (and drives up the price) because all us 64 guys that put on a dual master cylinder buy them.
Complete pairs are still not too difficult to find though, but you should be prepared to refinish them.
