Switching to solid state blinkers

So my relay had a melted terminal. Rather than pay the $50 to replace it I figure I will just do the solid state solution that replaces all three components sitting behind the center speaker in my 1965 Convertible. The care is pretty original so I will keep the old equipment.

Question is: To do or not to do? Any feedback tossed into the hat would be appreciated. Also, is there a preferred model?

Cougars Unlimited has been doing them the longest, but I don't have any direct experience. Mine work, but the next time they break, I will be seriously considering it. I will cover the whole thing in fiberglass insulation and 2" gaffer tape so it will still look original.

My ‘65 had Cougars Unlimited unit installed when I bought it.
Has (and continues to) work perfectly. My $0.02 worth.

I bought the one from Cougars Unlimited about eight years ago and it's worked flawlessly. Doesn't look anything like the original, though, so if that bugs you then you might consider wrapping it like Jason suggested.

Thanks All for the input. I wonder if the one Eckler's has is the same. The pricing is the same and the date reference appears to be as well. I guess I will bite the bullet and do it.

Next is putting on a new convertible top. It still has the original and the back plastic window is yellow and cracked to pieces when I retracted it yesterday. The car appears to have spent most of its life in storage.

For convertible tops check out ARO (http://www.aro2000.com/149_order_form.htm). I bought pads from them and they were perfect. I had bought a top and pads from Convertible Top Guys; the top was meh and the pads were useless. Had I known about them then I would have gone to ARO first.

I just called them and they were closed.
My Bird is pretty much all original so every seal is like dust.
I wanted to ask them about all of the compoents to replacing a top.
I see that there are several items on their site regarding a new top.

Here's a question: I don't believe that my '65 came from the factory with emergency flashers. There is no switch or indicator light on the dash.

However, I did replace my entire (malfunctioning) semi-original turn signal system with the Cougar's Unlimited system that I purchased last year. (It works great, BTW.) Is the four way flasher function built into my new Cougar's Unlimited unit? If so, how would I wire that up?

Or is the four way flasher something they sell separately.
