Post by goldwinghg »

Has anybody, installed coil over rear shocks,on there 56 tbird. If so,how was the ride? Does it cause the rear to sit high.

Hi, In 1956 the TBirds came with a spring OE in the bottom of the shock. That doesn't do a thing for ride height. If your talking about an overload style spring, well that's just what it is "overload". If you need them it's spring time, and I don't mean the season. Non original you could go with an air shock. Good luck.

I have air shocks on my 56 rear end, my car sits 24". which is the suggested height. I feel that the coil over shocks would bring the rear end higher. This would spoil the esthetics of the car.

Coil over shocks are usually adjustable for ride height. There should be an adjustment ring on the shock. If you have good springs, a coil over shock should not be needed.

A true coil over shock actually replaces both the spring and the old shock. This is one variation
