215/75R/15 The stock 815 x 15 is 28" tall. The 215 radial is about 27.6" tall. Width may be slightly wider as I believe the old tires were an 80 series and the comparison radials are a 75 series.
When I bought my new wheels and tires, I called many shops to find someone that is into old cars so I could get the right offsets and such. I finally found someone and am happy with my purchase and help I received. The "P" means passenger tire. The R means radial.
You can do a lot with size ratios. My wheels are 17 x 8 and tires are 235/75/17, but are within 1/4 of an inch of stock height. I know you are looking at stock, but thats just for info.

I have a 65 Landau and it has 205/65-15's
They need to be replaced and I'm wondering if I should put on the larger size listed above?

I have Cooper 215/75/15 with about 10,000 miles on them in 8 years and I know that is not many miles but have had good luck with them..That said I know with classic cars you change them with time more than miles so this spring will be putting another set of Coopers on..I started looking and they are about $95 each which isnt to bad..Good luck..

OEM was G78/15.
215 75 R15 is as close as you can get in a radial but its revolutions per mile is a little lower which throws the speedo off a little.
If you could go to a wider radial tire the speedo would be closer but the rims aren't wide enough.

Sorry they were 8.15 X 15 in 65. No Alpha tires existed yet.
Some people use 215/75/15, some use 225/70/15. Have found that the use is owner chosen, but 215/75/15 is closest to original to my understanding. The difference is 4 mm per diameter.
ALSO remember not every tire maker is the same dimensionally, there are variances of ×/- a few mils, so Speedo can be off a bit anyways.
