power window mechanism coil spring
can anyone tell me which way the coil spring goes on the right side rear window. I foolishly took it apart without taking pictures. I know that if the window is up the coil is relaxed but there are two ways to install the spring. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: power window mechanism coil spring
This came up recently on a different thread. The picture below is from the right quarter window regulator with the motor removed. The spring should wind up (tighten) as the window goes down, which is clockwise in this picture.

Re: power window mechanism coil spring
I am having a bit or trouble reconciling the two photos. In the one from rt146, the tang for the spring to hook over is in the center of the plate. In the other photo from apines, it hangs over the end of the plate and is above the toothed rotating segment.
On my 64, rear mechanism, the layout is the same as shown by rt146, and I think all 3 years used the same. The door windows for a 64 are different to the other years, and may be the source of the other photo.
When I did mine, I set the arm at the extended position and then put the spring on with one turn of tension so that as the arm retracted, the spring wound up. Pretty easy to figure out once you see the direction of rotation of the center pin as the arm retracts.
Hope this helps

The one I posted is the right-side quarter window regulator out of my '66. I think rt.146's picture is of a door window regulator.

Re: power window mechanism coil spring
Thanks guys, mine is like Alpines. Just a note my 66 conv. has the highway pilot too. It was originally ordered by the Chief Council at Ford. His name was R.G.Harris. Mr Harris was the fellow that approved the name THUNDERBIRD for use on the Ford sports car in 1954. Wish I could talk to him today but he would be in his 90s by now. Fun fact.....Royce
