Strange dimples
I have the best answer. When it is necessary to work under the dash,
it is necessary to remove the engine. The device you sit on when
going through the fire wall is fastened at those points.
I'd like to see the picture of that device.

RedBird I think sleeper bird hit it right on the head do you have the side hood bumpers in place there should be two on each side.
I just went back and looked at your pictures on the first page and see at lest one in place and the holes are not in the location of the bumpers.

Hood bumpers
Hey guys I will weigh in here (pun intended). the four hood bumpers all line up with the appropriate bump outs on the underside of the hood. So Scott check that first. the back two are approx in line with the face of the firewall. The front two are approx 16 inches back from the front of the hood at the point it meets the fender. Scott; in your posted pictures the bumpers I see (which are the front ones) look to be in about the correct location. SOOO I think the holes you have arer extra. SORRY to burst the bubble. I would check the underside of the hood for the bump outs and approx location of the rubber pads. The car looks so good I would not move them even if in wrong location as why cause you greif and extra holes to see. BTW I have watched from the side lines and your posts have been awesome and interesting; being an old school member of about 40 years with the VTCA, its nice to see new blood speaking up and learning about the OLD Birds.
Thanks Raven for the kind comments. The hood pads in my pics replaced the old ones that were still intact. They are one of the few things I didn't mess with as a kid. So I'm sure the pads are in the correct place.
The shop that painted it was diligent about filling all the holes I had made throughout the years and even filled a few they shouldn't have. Those had to be re-drilled. So it's strange that they left these ugly holes intact.
I still need to question John (shop owner) about them.
