a really small question

Post by TbirdIntender »

My inside rear view mirror won't stay adjusted. It's not just flopping down, as I've seen some do, but just constantly, gradually moving out of alignment.

Is there any possible fix short of replacing the mirror?

Put a piece of sandpaper between the ball and socket.

There is a ball and socket on each end of the arm. At the center, there's a small nub on one half on the arm that the other rocks on. You can file or grind a small bit off the nub to close the sockets up. Not too much though.

The two clam shell clamps are pinched by the centre screw, and over time the clamps defect or deform and loose their ability to hold the mirror tight.
One method is to re bend the halves straight and return the units to original shape. BE CAUTIOUS, as the parts are made from pot metal and can be forced to failure, with a rapid repair.
Another method is to sand the mating surfaces, so the clamping effort is increased.
There are different methods to get more clamping force and is each to their own on that method.

Hey, many thanks for all the suggestions, folks! I'll see which one I can make work.
