65 Door Lock Guard Issue

Post by johnnytheg »

Today, after taking my bird out for a spin, I went to lock the driver door and when I pulled the key from the hole I noticed the little piece of metal that normally covers the hole was missing. I tested the lock a few times with the key and it seems to be working fine, but I am concerned that maybe that piece broke off into the tumbler and I could potentially have a broken door lock some time soon. I'm not exactly sure how the tumbler mechanism works in regards to that little hole protector. Does it slide to the side or push all the way back with the key? I'm assuming not having that guard there now creates the potential for dirt and grime to get caught in there as well. Any recommendations? Should I just not worry about it?

Thanks in advance

My lock protectors were already broken off when I bought my car. No telling how long they've been gone, but it hasn't hurt anything. The locks work fine.
