I went to check my brake fluid today. I had installed a new dual master that has a jelly jar setup and two clips to hold down the top. I popped one of the clips that is closest to the hood hinge and it fell into what I call the Bermuda Triangle of bullet birds. The area starting at the firewall that's between the engine, drivers fender and power steering pump. Its an area that you are challenged to get your arm into due to all the parts wires and tubing. It was close to 90 degrees out and humidity close to match and for the life of me I could not find that clip.
There are many hiding places under the power steering unit and in the gap between the firewall and the front fender etc for it to hide. After an hour of much sweating and a little swearing I gave up. Tried to poke a magnet around there, tried to vacuum anything out and used my air hose to try and blow anything out. No sign if it. It has mysteriously disappeared. I have lost washers , nuts, pieces of wire etc in that area that never return. In the end I fabricated a hold down clip from a 4" hose clamp. Seems to work. Anyone else find the same issue on loosing parts in that area?

I can definitely relate. When I took off my hood and hood hinges I had a much clearer view of the bottom pit. I did find those long lost washers, mini hose clamps, pieces of wire, bolts, screws. etc. I know some were dropped by me, the others may have collected since the sixties!

Glad to hear its not just me! With the hood on you cant get your head in there to see. I did try to use some mirrors to no avail . Some day when I decide to take the hood off and do my hinges in the correct cadmium gold color I may find the clamp. Thanks for the tip!

There, and the space behind the intake manifold forward of the firewall are both a black hole for parts. When I was replacing the hydraulic lines to wipers, I dropped the wrench back there on the little ledge. When I went to get it, I also picked up the two clips that originally held those lines together from the factory. Somehow they landed there decades ago and never fell off so that was a nice find.
