Well, I been away for a while, now piddling with small issues for my 62. I replaced the non-working radio, speaker, and antenna with a used OEM and it works GREAT. I am now trying to resolve a fiercely growling speedometer. I disconnected the cable at the instrument, which stopped the growling, of course, no speedo operation. I assume the inner cable is still turning, so the growling must be coming FROM THE INSTRUMENT/GAUGE.
So, I am going to try to lubricate it (easier said than done). I removed the 2 small panels on each side of the steering column, so I can SEE it, but impossible to do much else. My question is, can it be accessed from behind the clock? (I have had the clock off before, to replace the gas gauge module, but I am tunnel-visioned lol!)

Re: Speed-O Growling
My car's out at the storage barn, but I recently had the speedometer out of it, and I think it came out as easily as the clock does. Check for a screw underneath; I'm sure someone who is more specifically well-versed in T-Birds can verify.

Thanks, Aaron - man, it would be wonderful if it was just like the clock - but I didn't see any screws on it?

Re: Speed-O Growling
I just swapped cars out in storage and picked up the T-Bird. As I was driving it home, I felt for the screw underneath the speedometer and it was there, just like the clock's. I believe it would be easiest to swing the wheel over to get to it.

Re: Speed-O Growling
So, nobody knows, short of removing the dash, an easy way to access the back of the speedometer gauge? (there are no screws on the outside)

Thanks, Aaron - I will look again for a screw.
I have a 62 - what model is your car? (and I do not have the swing-away steering)

Ok, that might explain it? (my car doesn't have a screw)
