Deck Lid Closes

Post by Basketball1234 » Sun Sep 02, 2018 6:10 pm

It is a 1961 Ford Thunderbird Convertible.

When the top is going down, the deck lid starts to close at the same time.

What is the fix to this?

You need to get out your shop manual and follow the the top limit switch adjustment covered in the convertible top adjustment section.

Yes, follow the instructions and read the schematics in the Shop Manual. All the movement in the trunk mechanisms are driven by limit switches and relays. Sounds like you may have a limit switch issue which may be causing the truck lid to close pre-maturely. It's not difficult, but a little tedious as you should learn where the switches are, and what order the fire in, and how the relays work.

The trunk lid should not start to fold until the top is retracted almost, if now all, the way down. There's a limit switch that activates that once the top is retracted far enough. Then the Deck Lid, should fold, and then the trunk lid should drop until the screw drives are engaged and pull the lid down.
