First, I assume you are using points in a conventional distributor and not Pertronix.

You aren't running a new wire. You are simply disconnecting the wire that already goes to the (+) terminal of the coil at the ignition switch and installing the tach in series on that wire. I presume the banana plugs should be sexed correctly on the Rotunda. You will need to take the ignition switch out if you haven't already.
Speaking for a 62, the wire you are looking for is actually red/green stripe. You attach the red wire here. That is 12V for the coil. To verify that it is the wire you want, it will only have 12V on it when in the "Run" or "Start" position and not in "ACC".
Image

The black wire on the tach should connect to a wire that looks like this, which is my 62's fried resistance wire. It may be different for your 61. It already goes to the (+) terminal of the coil. This wire actually has "Resistance" printed on it and is pink in color. You will not see this wire color at the coil as there is another circuit involved that bypasses the resistance wire at startup to provide a full 12V to the coil when cranking.
Image

This may be a bit confusing, but this is the circuit schematically. I have found that it is not physically wired this way. This indicates that the pink wire goes directly to the coil. The brown wire from the starter relay is what goes to the coil.

Yes, that's a lot for a bunch of old tin can transistors that now all fit on one piece of silicon. I hope it works out for you. It does have a rather large face that makes it easily viewable. It has a light bulb that brightens and dims along with the speed. That is kind of neat also.

You actually did very well price wise. There is another one on Ebay but its for a 6cyl and its a lot dearer then yours Icon.

There is also this one which looks similar but has Faria printed on the face in place of Rotunda and starting at $425.00 with no bids as yet and only 11 hours to go. It also doesn't seem to have the plastic adjusting screw on the front that yours has.

Thanks for your kind words I thought paying $570.00 was much ! but what do I know about vintage T Birds.....I really want to know a lot of info about his classic car, I also ordered a set of Wire Wheels from Tru Spoke from Falibrook California which were a total of $1,860.00 shipped that day ! vs from Larry's Thunderbird which told me they had no idea about when would receive a shipment which would of cost me $2,230.00! WOW !
When I figure out your picture post I will show my progress on her. again thanks for all your input.

Today I received the Rotunda Tach this tach is beautiful no pitting, no cut wires the chrome is so clean it came with a harness that is u shaped to fit over the steering collum. I guess paying $570.00 you get what you pay... It's like brand new I can't wait to install this baby.

I looked to see were the Tach would be placed WOW it's rather LARGE ! lucky the tach came with a chrome ban that allows it to rotate and with a base seat that follows the contour of the steering neck . I will place on the left side . since the direction signal arm is a lot thinner were it will not obstruct the face of the Tach, besides it will be closer to connect to the ignition switch.

I just mounted the Rotunda Tach on the steering column , I decided to mount on the left side note I placed a rubber gasket to protect the neck of the steering column . 1.less obstruction thinner directional lever2. the connection to the ignition switch is a lot closer 3. Can tuck behind rubber curtain on the swinging steering wheel column . I did check that there was no interference with the air knob just behind the Tach. Now to wait for warmer weather to do the wire connections and hide them. Oh I forgot to mention the light knob does not interfere with the back of the Tach.and the column shifter is clear from the Tach too! shifting is not touching the edge of the Tach.

I tried to hook up my Rotunda Tach yesterday according to the previous threads I could not find the Red/Green stripe wire to contact the Red wire from the Rotunda Tach I did find the "pink" wire for the Black wire. I tired a few under the dash but had not luck in having it work.
I could not remove the ignition switch I tried and only pulled out the key with inner but no entire assembly.

is there another way to hook up the tach.......I guess I'm missing something .....

Do you have the shop manual and electrical assembly manual yet? You should get them ASAP as this kind of stuff is in the shop manual.
