SuperBowl

Post by RAVEN »

Congrats to Rod Wake's home town team winning the Game.
It was close in the 3rd but Kansas came back, with 1.0 minute left on the clock and the point spread as it was, San Fran's loss.

Raven, Kansas City is not Wichita - trust me, I've lived in both places. Waiting to hear if VTKC members will participate in the parade on Wednesday - this is one of those times I wish I was still there.

Are the two cities not about 200 miles apart, making KC his closest supportive team? Or is my geography a little off? Far closer than San Fran and even in a different State.

If you've ever spent a significant amount of time in KC you'll learn about the "rivalry" between KC and St. Louis, along with the "Border War" between residents of Kansas and Missouri, with KC being at the epicenter of it all. Long story short it's not a big deal but there is a bit of city-centric pride for those in the KC Metro area which spans both sides of the border and Missouri River. Heck, in Omaha not everyone are Chiefs fans given connections to Minnesota, Denver, Chicago, etc.

Sounds like the rivalry of Toronto Argos and the Hamilton TiCats.
30 miles apart and its the Hatfield and McCoy story

Not quite that bad, but there is a certain amount of "pride" among Kansas Citians vs. other cities like Omaha, St. Louis, etc. which I've absorbed and witnessed first-hand in my time living in KC/Omaha and working in St. Louis. I did LMAO, though, last night at our President's tweet about how the Chiefs have made the "state of Kansas" proud - a kind of remark that may be made by those from the East or West Coast who regard the Central USofA as "fly-over" country, completely ignorant of the fact of geography and that the Chiefs' "home" - Arrowhead Stadium - is solidly in Missouri and, ironically, borders President Harry Truman's home town of Independence (in fact, residents of the county the stadium's in get first crack at season tickets every year vs the rest of the KC Metro area). That kind of state-centric comment is locally reserved for the state's universities - it's somewhat an extension of the "Border War" between Kansas University and Missouri University fans (the roots of which go even further back to the American Civil War, which I won't belabor here), which gets hyper during football and basketball seasons prior to their meeting each other competitively.

Either way, there's a lot of folks in "fly-over" country who have smiles on their faces this morning or are still celebrating. I just hope my friends in the KC chapter can participate in the parade on Wednesday like they have for the Royals' World Series championship ones (without Sports Roadsters burning to the ground like in 1985, that is).
