Reproduction Batteries

Post by 55blacktie »

Are reproduction batteries reliable? I'd rather not spend $300, plus tax and shipping, on a battery that's not reliable/has a short lifespan.

I've had mine for several years no problems. Its always disconnected and I seldom drive the car.

I have the same repro battery in my 56, I bought it from e Bay for $150.00 I was lucky to find at that price. I always plug it into a battery trickle charger after every drive, even through winter storage. It's always plugged in.I have never had a problem.

Some ‘55 owners who wanted to stay orig./6V, but also have the best battery, sometimes would put a red-top Optima in a phony case, though I don’t think it was really good enough to fool a concours judge.

Reproduction 6V batteries are available, as well as 12V that look like a 6V. Any battery in any car that is seldom driven probably should be kept on a trickle charger, motorcycles, too.

These batteries have a smaller AGM inside a retro looking case. Keep it on a maintainer when the car is parked/winter stored and it will last many years.

AGM is good, but I don't know about the smaller battery. I suppose the outer case can be retained and the battery replaced when it goes out. How is the cranking power with the smaller battery? Thanks.

These specs would be given by the supplier when the battery is purchased - just like any other battery. If the cold cranking amps are as good or better than OEM, results would be as expected.
