Which Radio?

Post by GregL »

Hi Guys,
Is this the "Volumatic Signal-Seek Radio" and does it use only one, mono sound, dash mounted speaker?
Thanks again, Greg

Output is mono. You can hook it up to multiple speakers, but still only one channel. These can be replaced with modern look-alike radios - but I prefer the original...

If it's a '57 it is. I can't tell from the front view if it is a '57. If you show view of the back of the radio you can tell, if it has two transistors it's a '57 with a volumatic.

That is a '57 T-Bird radio which were built with the Volumatic feature. They had a capacitor mounted on the coil with a cable that connected to the side of the radio to sense the engine rpm for the Volumatic to work. They usually got removed over the years.

I put a Repro Radio that I purchased from CASCO in my 57, looks good and actually plays nice, the volume is way to sensitive and the Bluetooth doesn’t work with MP3, if I had a do-over I would not have bought this radio. I didn’t have the original radio when I purchased the car. If I did I would have sent it out and had modern internals installed. There are many around the country that do this.
