Hi
After being out of town for a while my 56 wouldn't turn over. After jumping it, it turned over but died as soon as I released the key. I was hoping some of you could help narrow down my trouble shooting. FYI - I'm far from a mechanic but am learning as I go. Thanks

Re: Start up
So it cranks (turns over)? Sounds like fuel. Do you have fuel in the tank? Check that glass filter to see if gas is there. Could be fuel pump not pumping.
Re: Start up
If it does repeatedly and fuel is not the problem it could be the ignition ballast resistor. Jump across it with a wire temporarily and see if the engine keeps running or not. If it keeps running resistor is bad if it quits it is not the problem. A bad ignition switch could do it also.
Re: Start up
Thanks so much for the quick replies. Plenty of fuel and the filter seems fine. I will explore the ballast issue. Thanks again. Really appreciate.

Re: Start up
Ok I put a wire across the resistor and that worked. Ordered a new resistor. Just curious - what happens if you drive with just the wire?
Thanks
