57 hubcap center paint colour

Post by Ferrbird »

Does anyone know the name of the colour used on the 57 turbine hubcaps? It’s the ivory looking colour in center around the Ford lettering.
Thanks

White (or maybe cream) is the correct color

Well, it’s not white, more an ivory, cream tone.
Just looking for an actual factory name or colour number.

On the 1957 Hub Cap White was used according to the Original Factory Specification Manual Vol 2.

To Icon

Might I inquire regarding the Original Factory Specification Manual Vol 2 , that you refer to ?

I am not aware of that publication and am curious as to where I might obtain a copy. And also I would assume there is a Volume 1 ?

Thanks,Oldmics

You can obtain the OFS manual right here on or Country store . Go back to our forum page click enter, there on the upper right side corner is the Country Store clink down on the Country Books and Concours Rules pick the Vol 2 55-57 for $25.00. This will give you everything you need to know about your car. A big kudos goes out to ALL that have put in their time and labor getting this manual together. It's a must to have !

I have had the same question regarding the color and haven't been able to find a paint code or color "name" so I can fix the small rust spots on one of mine. I checked with some older Ford friends and looked in some old manuals that my brother-in-law had from his early days with Ford. Is there a paint code in the OFS manual, volume 2? If so I'll buy one!

I agree with Oldmics, it’s pretty close to the colonial white. It could also be white faded over time, so will experiment a bit, as I’ve got some single stage colonial white to play with, as well as some colonial white base coat for dual stage painting.

So I purchased the OFS manual, volume 2. The information isn't specific enough to determine the paint color - just white. Unless I missed something....
Hoping someone can find a specific paint code, otherwise I'm going to have to purchase another wheel cover.

You haven't missed a thing, That's what is written in the OFS Manuel . Remember that the paint on the these cars is well over 60 years....So I'am sure the color has changed. This Manuel states what the cars / colors were back then . If this doesn't satisfy your curiosity . You might ask Alan Tast he is the "Guru" when it comes to every little detail what is on the Thunderbird.

Will do. If I can at least come close I'm not sure you'll be able to tell the difference when it is on the car.

Ford's color/M-# for Colonial White is in the OFS in the Exterior section - there is a listing of colors, data plate codes and Ford's M-#'s for each color. We didn't have a separate listing for color #'s for the wheel covers but at least identified what their "generic" color is. A bright white exterior color for 1955 - Snowshoe White - is also listed. In my research for an article not yet developed on standard/utility non-exterior colors used by Ford for engines and items like trim, along with ones such as Argent Silver and Vermillion/Red, I found that Ford also listed a "Refrigerator White" as a utility color in 1958, and it may have been used in prior years: this would be brighter than the off-white Colonial White - regretfully I'm not near my library right now to post a M-# for it. A comparison of the two colors - Colonial White and Refrigerator White - against an original wheel cover/hub cap (white was also used for hubcap background color in 1956-1957) should reveal whether the original color was more of an off-white/cream color.
