Yes all three pumps are different.

I was writing a long post while you were typing. I hope this helps.

stubbie wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 9:49 pm Hi crashchoate I had a similar problem with my 64. There are slight differences between water pumps that interfere with the alternator brackets sitting flush. I had big problems trying to figure out why my idler pulley wouldn't sit in line with the other pulleys. turned out that the water pump was from maybe a 70's Ford and the bracket had been bent to fit. I think this is the post viewtopic.php?t=13037
I remember looking into this. Thank you stubbie for the link. I bought both the versions from oreillys and thought one of them would be correct. After looking through your thread again we had the same problem. Should have paid more attention. Again thank you.

FWIW, I was able to get the newest and most universal type to work on my non-A/C car. The missing "nub" that sticks out on the correct part is unused on my car so the hole that the unit below employs is fine. I assume this is for AC?

Common, "universal" FE WP for 65+ M/Y.

BTW, this one is in perfect condition and has less than 1K miles on it. It's a high-flow aftermarket part and if anyone near me want's it, they are welcome to it (N/C).

Please post some critical dimensions for us re. this pump:

1. Height/length of pump from the outlet flanges that sit against the engine block to the face of the fan hub (the face that the fan and clutch seat against). Is it 7-1/2" or different?

2. Length of inlet neck (what the lower hose goes over) from the pump shaft to the end of the neck. Is it approximately 7-1/4" or different?

See this thread for additional information:

Hey Alan, not sure if this was aimed at me but..

1. = Between 7 9/16 and 7 5/8" (the flange seems extra thick)
2. = From edge of inlet neck to the very center of the pump shaft measures 8 1/8". The same measurement to the inside edge of the shaft is 7 3/4".

You probably already know this but from what all the descriptions say for generic FE pumps, they always state for M/Y 65 and later.

My original pump on my 64. I should clarify. This was the pump that came on my car when I got it. It was incorrect for my year.

Ok gentlemen I have a question. I’ve been putting the radiator and wiring back in it’s place but I’ve run into something weird. As I was putting the trans lines back on one of the rubber lines broke. So I was just looking at it and noticed something in the line. Can any of you tell me what or why this is in the trans line.

Unlike Stubbies orig. WP, my early 64's orig unit had the the post in place of one of his threaded holes.
I'm looking forward to hearing what Crash's plug was. How could fluid have flowed with that thing in the line?

Well I made headway mounting the hydroboost. Took quite a bit of trimming on the mounting bracket but it mounts up flush now. Trimmed the firewall a little bit too. All the fittings I got a pretty standard fittings and all fit great. I need to get some nuts and bolts and should have it mocked up tomorrow

BTW, did you figure out what that brass plug thingy is?

I will make sure to post more pics tomorrow as I’m finishing up the mounting. Still haven’t figured out what that was. But it’s not going back in.

Redbird I need a favor if possible. I’m trying to finalize the hydroboost unit. But I need a measurement for the pedal. I forgot to take one before I took all this apart. Just a toe board to back of pedal would be great. Thank you.

Well I finally got the hydroboost unit installed. I’m happy with. Hopefully it’ll help make this heavy bird stop. Some pics for your enjoyment. I did have to cut the firewall. But I don’t plan on ever going back to vacuum assist. I also had to extend the rod 2 1/4 inches

These fittings are 18mm 1.5 and 16mm 1.5 power steering fittings. They are 6AN adapters.

Sorry, I was out of town - hope this isn't too late.
With no floor mat and the tape measure compressing the carpet and pad a little, I get 4 1/2".
Hope that helps!
Did you end up with more clearance to the valve covers than you did with the vac. booster?
I'm looking forward to hearing how well it all works!
