Power window conversion

Post by crashchoate » Thu Aug 23, 2018 11:15 pm

So I was talking with the guys at birds nest one day about getting a window motor. Mine was missing and it would cost 250. I was like holy crap. Plus he told me to wait bc they are in between manufacturers. I really didn't want to wait long.

So I decide to modify a 94 f150 motor. I used 2 relays to reverse the polarity. I cut the gearbox off the 150 motor. Then I got 8/32 allthread and it mated right up to the factory gear box. Used the factory coupler. Made a flat on the shaft and turned down the tip with a flapper wheel on the grinder. I have it temp installed right now but it works great.

The total cost of this mod is 50 bucks. Not bad in my opinion. Wiring was easy.

Nice engineering!
I'd bet the F150's motor is more powerful too.

I would say it's about the same. I will try and figure out how to post some pics.

Nice idea and wonderful install. The pics show the mount method, and easily understood.
Some members on this site claim to be electrically challenged, and would not understand the wiring methods. Can you provide a wiring diagram and the interactions of the relays?

Yep, nice work and the way it's fitted doesn't look cobbled at all. I wish I had known about this a few years ago before buying three new motors!

I think it turned out nice. I found some grommets at O'Reilly that will work perfect for the shaft seal.

I love it and may have to try this. What relays did you use?

They're very standard relays - the most common automotive relay in the world. You could buy them from Napa or Oriellys https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/nv ... lays&pos=1
Or you can get a set with wiring from eBay (which I bought): https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-LOT-TEMCo-12 ... 2749.l2649
