Post by cjz1956 »

Need to replace turn indicator and speed indicator bulbs. Can anyone pass along lessons learned on how to remove instrument cluster?

Disconnect the battery. Lay on the floor and shine a light upwards. Unscrew the speedometer cable, look for and remove 4 Z-shaped brackets with a deep 1/4” drive socket (3/8” I believe). The pod will then lift from the top enough to unplug everything. To reinstall, use a shallow socket with a piece of tape to hold the nuts enough to get them started then finish up with the deep socket.

You should be able to change the bulbs w/o removing the cluster. When I have to work under the dash, I get a milk crate or like item that is the same height as the door sill. This makes it easier to get in lying on your back and easier to work under the dash

I used that milk crate on your suggestion Paul, Work's great when I needed to work under the cluster.
