Re: 1964 Thunderbird - power woes - just a lonely horn
Hey there! Thank you - I will take a look in the morning. I am trying to figure out how to follow the path of electrical on this. At the ammeter, I do not have power. When I took the leads off neither was hot. I went ahead and bypassed the meter for safety/taking a possible problem out of the equat...

Re: Ball Joint retaining bolt torque
The new upper came with a flat washer for under the castle but. The original had none. Throw it out? Our use it? that's going to be determined by the cotter pin hole, the hole and the castle nut need to be aligned for the cotter pin to be effective. JMO, Bob C In my case that would have been one of...

Re: 1964 thunderbird door lock latch
I lube it all up with lithium type grease and it works smoothly. Lithium grease may work pretty well for a while, even for a good long while. One more angle on this. A lot of people used a lot of lithium grease over time. I was chasing down stiff movement problems and Door Ajar function which is wh...

Re: Ball Joint retaining bolt torque
Specs for my modern Toyota and BMW products are considerably lighter but suspension designs, materials, and physics are totally foreign to this universe. I wouldn't expect a lot of aftermarket manufacturers to focus on their mid-century marketshare r&d either. Rare Parts makes that their focus. ...

Re: 1966 Thunderbird Restoration
...not much rust considering it's age and mileage. most of us just don't know the history of our cars, you can't take anything for granted. I replaced my front springs On a 4500 lb. car with doubtful investment wisdom, not taking anything for granted is some of the best Tbird advice I've read here ...

I now consider optional, a cosmetic replacement as those old ones are not even close to being worn out barring collision damage let me just throw this in, I didn't see it but both of my springs were cracked. California car with 100K, all front end parts appeared original. so just sayin' 104...

Re: 1966 Thunderbird Restoration
This was my approach in 2016 and after a couple thousand+ miles I’m sure I’d do the same. Nothing in the way of newfangled except for a HD front sway bar by Carolina Sway Bar—that made corners notably more diveable. Use heavier end links for this and consider optional lateral locks (I put them on bu...

Re: Problems with '65 Bird
I had bought Autolite plugs for the 390 last year, went to install them, and found out I had bought platinum plugs. Will these plugs work okay in an old 390? I'm also trying to get the power windows to work again, so I'm tearing down the switches first and cleaning up the contacts. The chrome to th...

Re: no heat
Brown and black lines under your console at the HVAC control head are lines you can check with the mityvac for leakage or hg. Like Terry said, if you check the water valve line going through the firewall behind the door lock canister, you might learn something. For example, if that line doesn't prod...

Re: no heat
Your problem is where you live  You gotta figure out a way to run your heater more than the very few cold days a year you have! Seriously, that's the curse of these cars, if you don't use accessories on the car they quit working. I'd start with the water valve first. Check motor ground. Thermos...

Re: Upper Ball Joint Notch by Kmarchet » Sun Jan 03, 2021 9:17 am Thanks. So you did not need to orient them in a particular way like the oe? Not trusting my memory here but, I'm sure there wasn't any directional aspect to the part. I didn't take good pictures of the front end which I regret. Not m...

Re: Rear Leaf Sags
Would love to hear any experiences just doing the rear. Did it help? Or do i need to do front also? BTW. New here. Wrote a couple posts today. Looking forward to meeting you all in the forum. I've done front and rear. Rear on more than one Tbird. Many here have replaced the front coils. It's my hum...
