Replacing temperature sending unit

The temp gauge is not working on my 65 Tbird. A few questions. My fuel gauge works so should not be the CVR. Also grounded out wire to unit and it pegs the gauge so gauge should be ok.. #1 Is it 5/8 thread? #2 I am assuming to drain coolant? #3 I see some units have thread sealer already on but shou...

Re: AC BLOCKAGE

Hey, thanks for all the caring advise. I will explore all options and go with the one that works for me when I start this project in the off season. Lots of September shows here in NY. I also have a few gigs as I am a drummer in a rock band. They all slow down once the winter sets in. If you are on...

Re: Replacing A/C hoses

I have seen the post about that kit. It seems that it is leaking around the glass itself. Hard to tell. But will try gasket first.Thanks..

Re: Using Enviro Safe R12a

Anybody with advice on changing the line with the site glass? My advice is remove the driver seat to give yourself more room to work. Consider if you want to change the expansion valve at the same time. The tar stuff is called cork tape and you can readily find it in HVAC supply stores, it keeps th...

Re: Using Enviro Safe R12a

When I worked at Ford and we were looking for a new refrigerant to replace R134a, a number of candidates were rejected because of flammability and toxicity. What eventually was selected, R1234yf, will burn under certain conditions and is considered 'mildly flammable' even though it was used as a fi...

Yes, it’s flammable - as was the old R12,
and gasoline, and a few other things that
live under the hood.

Just my $0.02.
Research I have done says R12 is non flammable

Re: Using Enviro Safe R12a

I've used it in my car and several cars I've repaired. It cools great, and has easy to live with pressures. I guess it depends on how bad is your leak, fixing it would probably be cheaper than pumping refrigerant in. JMO, Bob C I do have a bad leak at the site glass. Putting in Enviro with such a b...

Using Enviro Safe R12a

Is using Enviro Safe R12a drop in safe? I see that it is made of mostly propane and it says its flammable. I do have a leak in the system and will cost a lot to fix. Should I worry about a fire or explosion? I will be changing the drier now too. Thanks for any advice.
