Re: Something's Pulling My New Battery Down

For powering an electric choke on 1961 390 Autolite 4100: I connected mine to the primary output of the generator. With a 10-amp fuse in line. Idea is that the electric choke is powered only when the generator is turning, eg. when the engine is running. Seems to work perfectly and to be the most ob...

Re: Vacuum Cannister question

And just so we are clear, my SPECIFIC QUESTIONS were 1) Where does the LARGE vacuum line go? and 2) Where does the SMALLER line go? I didn't ask for a Dissertation nor the Theory of Operation. I resent your implication that I am either TOO LAZY to look for an answer, or TOO STUPID to see it when I'm...

Re: Vacuum Canister question

Well, alrighty then. I have (and many others I'll wager) have put together an entire vacuum system from studying those diagrams, which are actually very complete. If you're not willing to put in the time to study them, then I can't help you. I'd be glad to answer specific questions, but I don't hav...

Re: Vacuum Canister question

Look on pages 50, 51,53, 56, and 59 of your Electrical Manual. My website is: www.tbirdgarage.com OK, I didn't find anything on the canister in your Engine Compartment photos, nor were the pages you ref'd from my electrical manual very useful - best I can tell, one of the canister hoses goes to the...

Re: Vacuum Cannister question

The Osborne Assembly Manuals have very complete vacuum diagrams for 1962 cars. There are some photos of Bulletbird engine compartments that show some of the vacuum system components on my website. No 61-66 Thunderbirds were factory equipped with electric door locks, only vacuum locks as an option s...

Re: Carb Upgrade

You don't want to use the coil supply to power the choke heater. That circuit is working hard enough supplying the current for its intended purpose. Forcing it to power a resistance heater is going to reduce the voltage and current available to the coil and you do not want that. Your also running t...

Re: 12 Volt Switched Hot For Aftermarket Gauges

Hey all, Incase anyone needs this in the future I figured it out a few weeks ago. There is a terminal stud/nut on the upper right hand corner of the fuse box that is 12V switched hot, really easy access to run lines off of. Hope this helps someone in the future with wiring fun. Austin, is that on a...

Vacuum Cannister question

One more of the little issues I am now looking into on my 62. My vacuum canister has NO VACUUM LINES connected to it. I searched and read a few hi-jacked threads here on it, and not much help (no photos or basic info). My car is an a/c car (but disabled) and non-working electric door locks, if that ...

Re: Followup on Electric Fans

One last post on this topic - I bought an infrared temp sensor gun, so after idling my car to max warm (about halfway on the needle gauge) I checked the engine temp at the front of the block and it's at 204 F. I imagine in stop & go traffic it would be higher? Temps at the expansion tank and upp...

Re: Something's Pulling My New Battery Down

Steve, WIthout the wire attached the car will start normally because the choke will still be in the "cold" position. Your choke will likely stick on too long and that isn't good for your eng. Without the wire, the transition from cold to warm wont graduate properly. Scott Thanks, again, S...

Re: Something's Pulling My New Battery Down

Absolutley. If anything is hot while the car is off, that energy is coming from the battery. OK, thanks, RedBird64 - I went out this morning and yanked the choke wire. Car seems to start and run WITHOUT the electric choke? I was hoping to power back to the starter relay (in front of the battery), b...

Something's Pulling My New Battery Down

Ok, from our discussion of powering an electric choke, I took you guys advice, and REMOVED the choke hot wire from the coil. I thought I had found a suitable replacement, at an ALWAYS HOT terminal on the power windows relay on the firewall. Then my 3-yo battery died, and would not hold a recharge. W...

Re: Followup on Electric Fans

Thanks, Scott! Yes, I do NOT intend to replace the mechanical fan. I want an electric as a backup, added protection. A couple of basic, novice questions: I assume a pusher fan would go IN FRONT OF the radiator? (took a look yesterday, and there's plenty of room, in front of the radiator.) If not, th...
